Programs

Innovation isn’t abstract at Einstein, it’s lived.

As medical trainees, researchers, and future physicians, we see daily the barriers patients face, from inequities in access to healthcare to outdated systems that slow progress. EIG exists to break down these barriers by creating a culture where innovation and medicine move together. Our work is rooted in collaboration: across disciplines, across industries, and across the Bronx community we call home.

Through our core programs - Communication, Education, Applied Learning, and Professional Development - we aim to give students the skills, tools, and opportunities to design solutions that improve health and equity, and to bring those ideas into the world.

Communication

At Einstein, innovation can’t thrive if it stays hidden in silos. Too often, student ideas and projects never reach the broader community. That’s why EIG is committed to building clear, accessible channels that make innovation visible and connect students to one another. Through newsletters, digital platforms, and storytelling, we ensure that creativity doesn’t just spark, it spreads.

EIG will:

  • Publish the “So You Wanna Be…” series, highlighting diverse career paths in medicine, biotech, venture, and global health.

  • Curate Innovation Features with faculty, alumni, and industry leaders rethinking healthcare.

  • Run a regular Substack newsletter to centralize updates, opportunities, and events.

EDUCATION

Innovation is a skill that can be taught, practiced, and refined. At Einstein, students rarely get the chance to explore the tools of entrepreneurship, design thinking, and creative problem-solving alongside their medical or scientific training. EIG lowers those barriers by creating structured opportunities to learn. Through electives, seminars, and workshops, we equip trainees with the fundamentals of innovation while fostering curiosity that extends beyond traditional medical education. This ensures that Einstein students graduate not only as skilled clinicians and researchers, but also as innovators prepared to lead.

EIG will:

  • Host the Business of Healthcare Seminar Series, with speakers across medicine, biotech, and venture.

  • Launch an Innovation Elective that integrates design thinking and entrepreneurship into the curriculum.

  • Offer one-off workshops like IP 101 to introduce practical skills.

  • Create accessible resource guides for those exploring innovation for the first time.

Applied Learning

Ideas become impactful when they are tested in practice. EIG gives students the space and support to move from theory to action, building real-world projects that address healthcare challenges. By organizing case competitions, incubator programs, and pilot projects, we provide platforms where trainees can validate ideas, prototype solutions, and collaborate with mentors. Applied learning ensures that innovation at Einstein is not abstract, it produces tangible outcomes that reflect our commitment to health equity and patient-centered design.

EIG will:

  • Host the RISE Case Competition, connecting students to local organizations and health equity challenges.

  • Launch a Digital Health and Health Tech Incubator to support prototyping and early pilots.

  • Support longitudinal partnerships with Bronx-based organizations.

  • Showcase student projects through innovation fairs and pitch sessions.
