PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Building pathways and community for innovation careers.

The Professional Development Pillar exists to close the gap between interest and access. Many students are curious about biotech, startups, venture capital, and health technology - but few know how to actually enter these spaces. EIG creates concrete on-ramps through mentorship, skill-building, and real-world placements so students can explore innovation as a career path with clarity and confidence.

Our goal is simple: help students build the relationships, experience, and professional identity needed to move from the classroom into the world, shaping the future of healthcare.

Innovation Fellowship

A first-of-its-kind summer fellowship that places students in VC, biotech, startup, or health-tech organizations after the first year of medical school. The fellowship fulfills the required summer research experience while giving students direct exposure to innovation careers outside the traditional academic lab.

Fellows:

  • Are matched with a host organization aligned with their interests

  • Work full-time on real innovation, research, or commercial projects

  • Receive EIG mentorship and cohort-based support

  • Finish the summer with a tangible body of work and a professional network

This fellowship is designed for students who want to understand how ideas move from concept to market and who want early, meaningful exposure to that process.

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

Mentorship & Advising

EIG connects students with:

  • Physicians building companies or translating research

  • Faculty innovators across departments

  • Founders, operators, and investors in health tech and biotech

Through structured office hours, 1:1 advising, and small-group sessions, students gain perspective on career decisions, project development, and long-term growth in innovation.

“The fellowship was an incredible experience. I worked closely with the CEO on stakeholder discovery and customer interviews, gained hands-on exposure to how fast AI is shaping healthcare, and connected with physician-innovators balancing clinical care and innovation.”
